With Chinese New Year 🧧 celebrations still going on, I wanted to cook another Asian meal that is quick and easy to prepare and at the same time delicious 😋
Interestingly enough I came across Tom Kerridge’s book The Dopamine Diet ( I ordered mine from Amazon) and found a lot of meals I’d love to try and cook. All his recipes are based on the happy weight loss process or “the low-carb way to lose weight and feel good” 😃
Here is my take on his Asian Beef with Pak Choi and Radishes ( I could not find pak choi so I substituted it with spring onions and it was just as delicious 😋)

Ingredients:
- 2 rib eye steaks 🥩 (about 220-250g each)
- 2 spring onions, chopped
- 3-4 cm knob of fresh ginger, finely diced
- 6-8 garlic cloves, sliced
- 100 ml chicken broth
- Thai chillies 🌶
- 5-6 mini radishes (also called breakfast radishes), sliced
- 75 ml white wine 🍷 (I used Sauvignon Blanc)
- 2 teaspoons of honey 🍯
- vegetable oil
- sesame oil
- 75 ml Shaoxing wine rice
- 75 ml soya sauce
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- 2 stars anise
- paprika
Method: 👩🍳
- Season the steaks on both sides with salt and pepper and set aside for 10 minutes
- Heat a large pan to a medium-high temperature and pour some vegetable oil

- Place the steaks and cook each side for 2 1/2 minutes for medium rare, 3 minutes if you prefer them more cooked
- Set aside to rest

- In the same pan, add some sesame oil
- Add the sliced garlic cloves and the sliced ginger. Stir constantly and make sure they don’t burn. Cook until golden

- Season with paprika, pepper and star anise

- Add the honey and cook until it darkens to a rich, caramel colour

- Pour in the soya sauce, Shiaoxing rice wine and the wine. Bring to boil then reduce the temperature

- Reduce the temperature and add the chicken broth and let it simmer
- Add the sliced radishes and chopped spring onions
- Season with salt and pepper to taste

- Cut the rested steaks into 1 cm wide slices and place in the pan

- Mix well and serve with Thai chillies

Enjoy 😋
